Pacific Forest Rally
A  Successful Weekend.

Pacific Forest Rally, June 13 and 14, Merritt, BC
Third-Lane Motorsports Has a Great Event!

The Pacific Forest Rally is a performance event with a very long history. The  rally dates back to the l960s and it was part of the Canadian National Rally Championships until the early l980s when it ceased to be. In 2000, organizers, some of whom had competed in the event in the '70s and '80s, resurrected the PFR  and have slowly built the event back up to it former status as a stop on the Canadian Rally Championship series.

The roads are tight and challenge  both car and driver. On June 13, 36 teams from across Canada and the Unites States, converged on Merritt. With the SCCA having cancelled all freestanding ClubRally events until further notice, the American teams came seeking Out-of-Divisional points for the SCCA NORPAC Regional Championship, the Canadian teams were looking for points towards the Western Canadian Performance Rally Championship and/or the Canadian National Rally Championship.

It is always a pleasure for Third-Lane Motorsports to race in their home province. For a change the weather cooperated, the day was sunny and not too hot, the course was dry  and the wind kept the dust to a minimum. It was a good day to rally. "We are not  really worried about how we finish," said Noah before the event "having had bad  luck to start the season (see volume, 3 issue 1  newsletter) we are just aiming to finish."

The team started the event in good form setting 5th fastest overall time on stage 1, ahead of all of the Group 2 cars. Throughout the rest of the day Noah and Jason fought among  the top five group 2 cars. After stage 10 the team was 2nd in group 2 (including all group 2 national, regional and clubrally) on time but with a 1:20 road penalty the team finished 3rd. For scoring purposes Third-Lane Motorsports finished 2nd out of the ClubRally cars (click here for official ClubRally results).

The team would like to thank Chris, Cliff and Jason H. for their help at service. Thanks  to Ryan from Hotwater Performance and Todd from Hyperformance Braking and Control Systems for coming out to see the team compete. It was also nice that the teams Patriarchal sponsor out to see the team run.  Finally special thanks to the teams newest sponsor Yusaf Hair Studio. If you are in Vancouver and need your hair cut call Yusaf (604) 322-1196 and tell him we sent you.

Come to see Third-Lane Motorsports Compete at the Oregon Trail Rally on July 12, 13 and 14.

"from our perspective" Pacific Forest Rally

Q: How did the car work?
noah:
Fabulously! The help from Matrix Engineering paid off.
jason: The car ran much better---engine seemed a lot stronger since it was tuned.

Q: What was the course like?
noah:
Big drop offs, high speed and rough. A bit of everything.
jason: The course overall was  excellent-except for the AMR stages which were very rough and rocky.

Q: High point of the event?
noah:
Finishing.
jason: Finishing and doing reasonably well. Settling back  into the swing of things.

Q: Low point of the  event?
noah:
Not doing better. Smacking that stump-hit the corner  of the bumper and jammed wood into the wheel.
jason: Me checking in  early at the first time control, giving us a one minute time penalty. I must  have been asleep.

Q: What next?
noah:
To do better at Oregon Trail.
jason: Fix the bent rear stub axles before Oregon Trail  in four weeks time.
